Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day, is coming. It's a traditional NorthAmerican holiday, and is a form of harvest festival. In the United States, thefourth Thursday in November is called Thanksgiving Day. Thanksgiving was aboutthe Pilgrims, the first settlers in America. Thanksgiving Day is usually a family day. People always celebrate with bigdinners and happy reunions. Pumpkin pie and Indian pudding are traditionalThanksgiving desserts. Relatives from other cities, students who have been awayat school, and many other Americans travel a long distance to spend the holidayat home.

On that day, Americans give thanks for the blessings they have enjoyedduring the year. And I am sure that we all must have a lot to be thankful e you would like to give thanks for being here with your family and forbeing well,or give thanks for a healthy year, a good job,or thank your friendsfor encouraging you when you are in dismay, etc.

Thanksgiving is a holiday celebrated in much of North America, generallyobserved as an expression of gratitude, usually to God. The most common view ofits origin is that it was to give thanks to God for the bounty of the autumnharvest. In the United States, the holiday is celebrated on the fourth Thursdayin November. In Canada, where the harvest generally ends earlier in the year, the holiday is celebrated on the second Monday in October, which is observed asColumbus Day or protested as Indigenous Peoples Day in the United States.

Thanksgiving is traditionally celebrated with a feast shared among friendsand family. In the United States, it is an important family holiday, and peopleoften travel across the country to be with family members for the holiday. TheThanksgiving holiday is generally a "four-day" weekend in the United States, inwhich Americans are given the relevant Thursday and Friday off. Thanksgiving isalmost entirely celebrated at home, unlike the Fourth of July or Christmas, which are associated with a variety of shared public experiences (fireworks, caroling, etc.)

Thanksgiving which falls on the fourth Thursday of November, is one of thebiggest American holidays. This holiday started in the early 1600's aftersettlers arrived in America. These people who came from Europe didn't know howto survive in the wild new country. Luckily, they met some friendly AmericanIndians, who showed them how to hunt turkeys and grow corn. In the fall, afterthe harvest, the settlers had a great feast. They invited the Indians to thankthem for their help. Today the tradition continues. On Thanksgiving Day,Americans invite their friends over for a turkey dinner and give thanks for whatthey have.

Thanksgiving began with the first European settlers in America. Theygathered their crops, celebrated and gave thanks for the food.

Tradition says Pilgrim settlers from England celebrated the firstthanksgiving in sixteen twenty-one. There is evidence that settlers in otherparts of America held earlier thanksgiving celebrations. But the Pilgrims'thanksgiving story is the most popular.

The Pilgrims were religious dissidents who fled oppression in England. Theywent first to the Netherlands. Then they left that country to establish a colonyin North America. The Pilgrims landed in sixteen twenty in what later becameknown as Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Their voyage across the Atlantic Ocean was difficult. Their first months inAmerica were difficult, too. About one hundred Pilgrims landed just as autumnwas turning to winter. During the cold months that followed, about half of themdied.
